The Armor of God

Aug 13 2015 The Armor of God

Back to school is here!

Tax free weekend is over. Backpacks are loaded with newly purchased school supplies. And middle school and high school football practices are underway.

Do you remember your first day of school? The excitement running through your body entangled with the nervous pit in your stomach. Questions running through your mind such as Will I make friends? What if I get lost trying to get to my second period class?   Will I have anyone to sit with during lunch?

As you send your little ones, or big ones, off for their first day of school, we encourage you to read Ephesians 6:13-17 to them:

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and then sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

We all need to daily put on the armor of God. The enemy is all around, just waiting to attack, but if we are armed with God’s armor, which provides power and strength, we will be fully equipped to face every situation, even a lunchroom full of unfamiliar faces!

When David fought Goliath, Goliath was covered in bronze armor from head to toe and had a huge spear (1 Samuel 17:5-7), while David had only a slingshot and 5 stones (1 Samuel 17:40). Why was David able to defeat Goliath? Because he had on the armor of God and used His (God’s) weapons in battle.

Through Jesus, God has provided everything we need to stand firm against the devil and his plans.   Make it a point to daily arm your children with God’s armor so when they face Goliath, like David, they may only need a slingshot.
